PCC annual board election April 27 to May 25

Voting has begun in the 2007 annual election. PCC members will elect three board members and a new nominating committee.

There are four candidates vying for three board seats: Alexander Rist (incumbent), Chantal Stevens (incumbent), Buzz Hofford and Kelly Horton. The special election insert delivered to members inside this issue of Sound Consumer (also available online here) contains member ballots and features biographical information and campaign statements from each candidate, as well as a candidate Q&A that should be helpful in deciding who gets your vote.

The insert also contains information on candidates for the 2007-2008 nominating committee. The candidates are Eva Childers, Kim Norton, Paul Schmidt and Deanna Theiss.

Should you have any questions about your voting eligibility, please call the Member Records department at 206-547-1222 or e-mail

All election materials also will be available in the stores and on our Web site. Voting begins Friday, April 27, and ends Friday, May 25. See the election insert for balloting details.

Meet the candidates in person

We’re trying a different approach this year to campaigning. There will be four candidate forums — two on the east side and two on the west side — to give members an opportunity to talk one-on-one with our candidates.

“Over the past several years, our candidates have campaigned on a random basis at each of our stores, which resulted in a sort of ‘hit-or-miss’ scenario for our members,” notes Board Development Task Force Chair Julie Tempest. “We heard from members that they would appreciate knowing in advance when the candidates would be in the stores.”

We’ve arranged the following forum dates and locations, where members can meet candidates and listen to their vision for PCC and what they believe is important for the co-op. At least one of our current board members also will be at each forum to take part in the discussions. Plus, you’ll have a chance to share in a great PCC deli snack!

PCC Fremont goes carbon neutral

PCC Fremont partnered with local advocacy group NetGreen and the renewable energy company NativeEnergy to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. PCC Fremont contributed dollars to offset the store’s carbon footprint.

The offset dollars are being dedicated to NativeEnergy’s projects, which focus on using wind turbines and agricultural methane to create renewable energy. For more information on NetGreen, visit www.achievenetgreen.org. For more on NativeEnergy, visit www.nativeenergy.com.

Board report

The board met on March 27 and heard a report from PCC’s outside auditor on the 2006 audit. Our co-op’s financial health continues to be strong. The 2006 annual report with the financials will be available at the May 1 annual meeting and in the stores and on our Web site after that date.

The board also approved March 31, 2007, as the date of eligibility for the 2007 board election, which means that all members who were active as of March 31 are eligible to vote. The next scheduled board meeting will be Tuesday, May 29, at 5 p.m. at the co-op office. Member comment period is at 6 p.m.

Annual meeting May 1

We’ll publish a report and photos from our annual meeting on our Web site by May 16 and in next month’s Sound Consumer.
