Supplements on a shelf, health and body care products

Take action to save dietary supplements

(September 2005) — Our access to dietary supplements is on the line.

The U.S. Congress is considering legislation, H.R. 3156, which would make an estimated 70 percent of supplements subject to new regulations, some as restrictive as those for prescription drugs. The National Nutritional Foods Association (NNFA) says the proposed law would drive up prices and cause many well-known supplements to disappear from store shelves.

The NNFA argues that current law already requires manufacturers to ensure the safety of products and gives the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) all the authority it needs to police the marketplace.

Share your personal supplement story and let your lawmakers know the FDA should enforce the good law we have, not create new red tape. Visit www.saveoursupplements.org to send a letter to your representative.
