Protecting your skin from the sun is key during the summertime, and it's possible to do so without having to cover yourself in chemical-laden cream. We have a variety of sun care products made with all-natural ingredients that are safe for the whole family. Most of these sunscreens use zinc oxide as a base, a mineral that provides broad-spectrum protection against UVB and UVA rays. More ways to protect your skin

In addition to using an all-natural sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, there are several other measures you can take to ensure you keep your skin well protected.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure at peak hours, generally between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • If you're unable to stay out of the sun, keep yourself well covered.
  • Hats and sun glasses can offer additional protection.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure with babies and young children.
  • Use sunscreen products that protect against both UVB and UVA radiation.
  • Apply sunscreen products regularly to maintain the protection claimed.
  • Apply sunscreen products in sufficient quantity.

What SPF should I use?

SPF — sun protection factor — is used to measure a product's ability to protect against sunburn.

While most people assume an SPF 50 offers significantly more protection than an SPF 30, the scale is not that linear.

While SPF 15 can provide 93 percent protection from the sun, SPF 30 only protects a little more at about 97 percent. An SPF 50 to 60 shuts out 98 percent.

Rather, if a product is applied correctly, an SPF of 15 to 25 is all that's needed to protect a person from sunburn.
