PCC Green – Places
Each structure, system and design element in a PCC store contributes to a shopping and working environment meant to be as enjoyable, healthy and sustainable as the products we sell.
Creating this environment is a daily challenge. A grocery store is full of refrigeration units and equipment that use natural resources for cooling, heating, cooking and lighting. From the moment products arrive at our loading docks to when they leave our check stands, waste is generated from packaging, food preparation, and even printing transaction receipts. Supplies and water necessary for routine store cleaning and maintenance produce even more waste.
We respond to this challenge with rigorous practices and monitoring procedures that conserve energy and water, reduce waste, and promote air quality in our stores and business office. Our efforts pay off in minimizing our utility costs and even awards and recognition but more importantly in our ability to offer a shopping experience that is pleasant for our customers and employees, and respectful of the environment.
