This natural mix has a scent that most people enjoy but insects don't appreciate. As an oil, it can be rubbed directly on the skin, or see the variation for a spray-on version.

Ingredients

Preparation

Mix citronella, lavender, pennyroyal, tea tree and jojoba oils and blend with almond oil before rubbing on your skin. For a spray, mix with rubbing alcohol or vodka. Be sure not to apply undiluted active ingredients to your skin! Do a spot test for irritation before applying.

To avoid making the repellent too concentrated, remember to add approximately 2 ounces of base for every 1/8 ounce of additional essential oil.

Notes

If you prefer a spray, substitute 16 ounces rubbing alcohol or vodka for the almond oil.
