Overview

The 2009 meeting was a glowing success. Attendance reached yet another record with nearly 375 members joining us at St. Demetrios Hall in Seattle on April 28.

We got off to a great start with a colorful, seasonal, delicious meal planned by PCC Chef Lynne Vea and executed by PCC Fremont’s Blake Caldwell (executive chef), and PCC Edmonds’ Birgitte Antonsen and Alex George (sous chefs). Kudos to Jill Edwards and the terrific meal service team. Special thanks to our vendor partners Rosie’s Organic Chicken and Fidalgo Bay Coffee for their generous product donations.

Once again, our board members and many management team members from our stores and headquarters served as table captains at the dinner tables.

Focusing on bulk, seasonal and local shopping, they talked about ways to make your dollars go further while bringing easy and nutritious The educational program for this meeting was “Values and Value.” Director of Marketing and Membership Laurie Albrecht talked about the ways PCC supports our mission and the values of our members, highlighting PCC’s community outreach efforts as well as PCC programs that educate around healthful eating, including new Web features.

One of our new Web features are cooking demonstration videos hosted by Chef Lynne Vea. In the first series, four PCC staff worked with Chef Vea each creating a different item from our annual meeting menu. We premiered the videos at the meeting with live commentary from Vea and two of our nutrition educators Rita Condon and Leika Suzumura. The videos and recipes are posted below.

Board chair Stephen Tan and CEO Tracy Wolpert reported that our business remains solid, even while being challenged in the current economic climate. Letters to members from Tan and Wolpert are included in the 2008 annual report, which is available in each store and online.

As part of the CEO report to the membership, Director of Sustainability Diana Crane presented a report on the ways PCC upholds our members’ values relating to lessening our environmental impact. Crane reported on improvements in store operations as well as in construction methods (both new stores and remodels) that have made PCC a community leader in the sustainability arena.

We wrapped up the meeting with campaign statements from our five candidates. They stayed after the meeting was adjourned to meet members and answer questions. (Read candidate statements and watch short video clips from PCC's 2009 annual election.)

Photos and additional meeting information from the meeting will be posted in the coming weeks.
