GM and insects
Moths, mosquitoes, and flies currently are undergoing genetic modification and will be commercially released soon. The Financial Times reports that GM insects will be used in an effort to protect US cotton fields from the pink bollworm and The Institute of Science and Society says GM mosquitoes will fight insects that spread dengue fever in Asia.
Critics, including the Center for Food Safety, believe that genetically modifying insects to fight disease could create more problems than it will solve.
