Dear Advocate,
Every year family fishermen are forced out of business due to the way our fisheries are managed. Under the current system, fishing permits are allocated based on catch history, favoring large operators who caught the most, the fastest, and often with the least sustainable methods.
The Fair Fish campaign is working to level the playing field for family fishermen. Here's what you can do to help:
Call Maria Cantwell
Call Maria Cantwell and tell her you disagree with the privatization of our federal fisheries and the consolidation of control in the hands of seafood corporations. Urge her to call for a congressional oversight hearing on catch share proposals. Her phone number is 206-220-6400.
Attend the National Day of Action
Wednesday, October 28th
Between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Fremont PCC
For questions contact campaign organizer Carina Barnett-Loro at 919.724.1109 or carina@greencorps.org.
Thank you,
Trudy Bialic and Eli Penberthy
