Get fit with Seattle Parks and Recreation!

seattle parks

PCC has teamed with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department (SPRD) on a series of events to get Seattle kids (and their parents) moving! This year-long partnership promotes exercise and nutrition as important components of good health.

Together, PCC and SPRD promote exercise and nutrition as important components of good health via education, Kid Picks events, cooking and food demos and more at various community centers throughout the city.

PCC also is the title sponsor of SPRD's Big Day of Play, a free event for all Seattle families to experience the variety of activities the department offers and be fueled with a variety of healthy food options from PCC.

Healthy Parks, Healthy You

Seattle Parks and Recreation developed its Healthy Parks, Healthy You initiative in 2008, after considering its role in the fight against childhood obesity. "We knew that we were in the right position to affect change in neighborhoods throughout Seattle because parks are located throughout the city and we have relationships with numerous partners and community groups," writes Sue Goodwin, Recreation Director for SPRD.

In an effort to spread the health and wellness message, SPR has organized special events for the public that support healthy activity and choices. On August 27, 2011, SPR will hold Big Day of Play — its fourth annual event — at Magnuson Park, and PCC is happy to join in on the fun.
