PCC Healthy Kids: For schools
Eat better, feel better
PCC is teaming up with Seattle-area schools to teach kids the value of good nutrition and healthy habits — in the classroom with nutrition training for teachers, while shopping with their parents for groceries, and during special events like Market Nights that will bring fresh produce and more to lower-income schools.
We're here to help!
PCC and our team of local organizations and institutions have created dozens of ways to boost the region's appetite for good nutrition, including:
- An increased number of Kid Picks taste-testing events held at elementary schools throughout the school year with a greater emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables, meats and dairy.
- Expanding the benefits of the PCC Scrip fundraising program to schools with added incentives including free nutritional classes for parents and children, Kid Picks events at school and "behind-the-scene" store tours.
- Partnering with Seattle Public Schools and Seattle Action Nutrition Consortium (SNAC) to organize and deliver three Markets Nights at lower-income schools of the district's choice. PCC will provide free produce, recipes and nutritional information.
- Developing a nutrition curriculum for fifth graders based on current education requirements. Implementing a Train the Trainer program to help deliver and teach the curriculum.
- Providing nutritional and whole foods training for food service staff.
- Sponsoring Experience Food Project, a local non-profit providing leadership and technical assistance to enable every school district in the state of Washington to prepare healthy, locally sourced lunches, snacks and breakfasts available to every child.
