Eat healthy, dance hard, live loud
PCC partners with the Seattle Storm Dance Troupe
During timeouts and halftime at Seattle Storm games, a group of 16 youth ranging in age from five to 15 take to the court for high-energy dance routines and fun performances. PCC is proud to sponsor the Seattle Storm Dance Troupe this year — the partnership is a way for us to publicly promote good nutrition and exercise for children, as part of our PCC Healthy Kids initiative.
"The Storm represent health and an active lifestyle," says Sara Walsh, PCC Community Relations Manager. "The Dance Troupe attracts vibrant kids that want to get out there and dance and live."
As part of the partnership, PCC has filmed four vignettes with the Dance Troupe, each one discussing a simple way kids can eat healthier. The vignettes will air during Storm games as well as on the PCC website, the Storm's website and in PCC classrooms. Topics include eating a rainbow of colors every day, healthy snacking, eating for an active lifestyle and trying new foods. Our hope at PCC is that families in our community will be inspired and encouraged to eat better and live a healthier life.
"It's a chance for kids to connect with kids," says Laurie Albrecht, PCC Director of Marketing. "Peers inspire one another and the Dance Troupe is a great example of kids who really walk the walk."
In addition to the video vignettes, the Dance Troupe will perform at PCC-sponsored events this summer. They already made an appearance at the Fremont Fair, performing on the Waterfront Stage. On Saturday, August 27, the Troupe will perform at Seattle Parks and Recreation's Big Day of Play at Magnuson Park, and they will teach kids in attendance a variety of dance steps.
"We want this to be fun for kids," says Albrecht. "It's about going out into the community and engaging individuals. Ultimately, nutrition, exercise and an active lifestyle are the keys to a healthy, happy life."
The Storm's regular season continues through September 11. Check out a home game at KeyArena and see the Dance Troupe perform. For a complete schedule and tickets, visit stormbasketball.com.
