We're here to help!
PCC and our team of local organizations and institutions have created dozens of ways to boost the region's appetite for good nutrition, including:
- A partnership with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department (SPRD) to promote exercise and nutrition as important components of good health. This partnership includes nutrition education, Kid Picks events, cooking and food demos, and more at various community centers throughout the city. PCC is a title sponsor of SPRD's Big Day of Play, a free event for all Seattle families to experience the variety of activities the department offers and be fueled with a variety of healthy food options from PCC.
- Taking part each year in Families Helping Families — a partnership with Seattle Children's Hospital in which PCC donates 5% of sales of Kid Picks-approved products in May, up to $10,000, to be used for Children's Hospital's childhood health education programs through Western Washington.
- Sponsorship of Seattle Storm's Dance Troupe, the youth cheerleading squad for the Storm. Members of the Dance Troupe will make public and video appearances promoting nutrition, health tips and physical exercise as keys to good health and fun.
- Underwriting KCTS Preventing Obesity workshops for parents, educators and childcare providers. Workshops focus on how to prevent obesity-related health risks from developing in children.
- Hosting summer food drives at all stores and participating community events to collect family-friendly food donations and increase awareness that summertime is a time of increased hunger among children with no access to free and reduced lunch programs offered through schools.
- Providing classroom space and promotion to the Gluten Intolerance Group for their Teen Advocates for Gluten Sensitivities (TAGS) program.
- Sponsoring Girls on the Run, a national nonprofit that uses running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls.
- Participating in the Can Do 5K-10K — Organized by Northwest Special Families, a program of the Center for Human Services in partnership with Northshore YMCA. PCC is the official Fruit Sponsor of this event in which proceeds will benefit families and children with special needs in the North king an South Snohomish Counties through additional inclusive programming at the YMCA and in the community.
