PCC Healthy Kids: For children

Eat better, feel better

Eating healthy can be fun and delicious — even if it might seem like hard work at first. Sometimes, it takes a few tries to like a new food. That's one reason we launched our PCC Kid Picks taste-testing program in 2004, where children try a variety of foods in a low-pressure, fun environment.

One easy way to expand your palate is to strive to eat a rainbow of colors at each meal. Look at your plate: Do you see bright foods such as crunchy red peppers, green leafy vegetables, sweet blueberries, orange carrots or yellow squash? The colors of the rainbow are a clue that these foods are nutrient-rich.

We're here to help!

PCC and our team of local organizations and institutions have created dozens of ways to boost the region's appetite for good nutrition, including:

  • A free serving of a fruit or vegetable of their choice each time kids visit PCC. Children 12 and younger.
  • Our Kid Picks taste-testing program, which since 2004 has connected local children with a variety of new foods to try. We're increasing our focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins and dairy at future Kid Picks tasting events.
  • A variety of week-long summer cooking camps that explore healthy diets and global cuisines plus PCC Kids Cook cooking classes offered year 'round through PCC Cooks for children ages 2 to 15.
