"Think Green Day" to emphasize practical recycling and food composting for the future

Joint effort of PCC Natural Markets, Eco Encore and Seattle Tilth to benefit 19 Northwest environmental organizations

Seattle, Wash., September 16, 2005 — PCC Natural Markets (PCC), Eco Encore and Seattle Tilth are joining forces on Saturday, October 1, to educate and involve consumers in simple, effective recycling and food composting practices.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at each of PCC's seven Seattle and Eastside locations, consumers can drop off used books, CDs, DVDs and computer software that will then be resold by Eco Encore to benefit 19 Northwest environmental organizations. Seattle Tilth will conduct food composting demonstrations at each drop off site.

"Participating in Think Green Day is an easy way to make a difference! Anyone can help improve the environment and support local environmental organizations, through composting at home and by donating items no longer of use," said Karen Luetjen, Executive Director of Seattle Tilth.

The idea for a "Think Green Day" resulted from PCC being made aware of the work of Eco Encore, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping Northwest environmental groups raise much-needed funds through the sale of used items that might normally end up as garbage. According to Eco Encore's Board president, Patricia Magnafichi, "Every time we receive and sell a donated item, we're keeping an item in use and out of landfill, raising money for environmental organizations and building awareness of the power of recycling. It's a simple, yet powerful, concept."

Items most needed by Eco Encore include: CDs and DVDs, software and video games, instructional videos and videos of rare or old movies, and art, self-help, recent textbooks, cookbooks and computer books.
