Seward Park neighborhood celebrates 20th anniversary of local PCC
Seattle, Wash. (June 9, 2005) — Private and business residents of the Seward Park neighborhood will join for a neighborhood celebration at their local PCC Natural Market on Saturday, June 11.
Store neighbors are invited to stop by for a free community barbecue in the store's parking lot between 5 and 7 pm. Afterwards, the parking lot will be transformed into an outdoor theater, featuring a free showing of "Ghostbusters," which was released just a year before the store opened.
PCC opened its Seward Park store at 5041 Wilson Ave. S. in June 1985, occupying the former Seward Park Family Market. PCC leased the property until January 2002, when PCC was given the opportunity to purchase the building and land from the family that built the original store in the early fifties. By doing so the property was saved from the likelihood of development into a multi-use property, and PCC was financially able to retain its place in this close-knit Seattle community.
"We wanted to share our store's 20th anniversary with those who have made it possible," said Scott McCormick, store director. The Seward Park is characterized by residents who grew up here and chose to stay because of its unique sense of community. It's a neighborhood that supports local business, too. We've been thriving for 20 years, but our neighbors, like Pizzuto's and Rex's service station, have been here 21 and 40 years, respectively."
Saturday's celebration includes support from 17 local PCC vendors, and special entertainment by several PCC employees, making it truly a home-grown and supported event.
