FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seattle film premiere of "The Future of Food"

What the biotech industry won't tell you about genetically engineered foods

Seattle, Wash. (January 4, 2005) — "The Future of Food" provides an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truths behind the unlabeled but patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled American grocery shelves over the past ten years. The health implications, government policies and the push towards globalization are documented.

Shot on location in the United States, Canada and Mexico, "The Future of Food" examines the forces behind a billion dollar battle to own and control the world's food production.

From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada and the American Midwest, to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this powerful new film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and communities have been hurt by this new and poorly understood technology. It was directed and produced by Deborah Koons-Garcia, widow of the late Jerry Garcia. If you see no other film on genetic engineering — make it this one.

"The Future of Food" Seattle premiere will be shown Friday, January 14, 7 to 10 p.m. at the University of Washington, Kane Hall Room 120, in Seattle. To cover costs, donations are requested, $5 for students, $7 general admission.

After the film, producer/director Garcia will take questions and lead a discussion. Craig Winters of the Campaign to Label Genetically Engineered Foods, and Goldie Caughlan, of PCC Natural Markets, will provide insights on regional and local concerns with genetically engineered agriculture.
