PCC signs lease for new Fremont location
Plans to accommodate growing market
Seattle, WA (September 13, 2002) — The PCC Natural Markets store in the Fremont neighborhood will be moving. PCC management has signed a lease to move PCC Fremont into a bigger, corner location next spring. The agreement was signed with the Fremont Housing Group, an affiliate of Security Properties, Inc.
PCC will be the primary retail tenant on the first floor of a mixed-use retail and residential complex on North 34th Street, between Evanston and Fremont Avenue North, across from the Red Door tavern.
"The new location will allow us to provide even more variety to consumers and much needed parking," says Tracy Wolpert, Chief Executive Officer of PCC Natural Markets. "It's virtually across the street from our current location, and gives us a lot more room to provide an even wider selection of the fresh, high quality foods that consumers are looking for."
"We were approached by Fremont Housing Group some time ago and saw the building as an excellent opportunity to grow our presence in the Fremont neighborhood. We have been working on it ever since," says Randy Lee, Chief Financial Officer.
The new location will keep PCC Natural Markets a vibrant part of the Fremont neighborhood. At 20,500 square feet, the new store is nearly double the size of the current PCC Fremont store. With a full floor of underground parking, in addition to much more on street parking, the site will more than triple the amount of available parking spaces. The new store also will include a new bakery and café seating, indoors and out, with a sunny southwest exposure.
PCC Natural Markets is the largest consumer-owned natural food retail cooperative in the United States, with 40,000 member households. It has seven Puget Sound locations, including Fremont, and has been in business since 1961.
