PCC 2007 Annual Report

A message from your board

On behalf of your Board of Trustees, I’d like to thank you for your patronage and for making 2007 such a successful year.

Despite increasing competition from other retailers, our members displayed great commitment to PCC and broke several important records last year. Sales hit $115 million, up nearly 9 percent over 2006. We returned a record $2.2 million in member discounts, and a record 300 members attended our fall member meeting. Congratulations to PCC staff and members for reaching these outstanding milestones!

Since 1953, PCC has been a positive force for advancing local agriculture, community health, and sustainability. On behalf of our members, the board supports PCC’s work in these areas by developing governance policies to help guide the co-op toward a healthy future.

In 2007, we created a Policies & Bylaws Task Force to review and strengthen our current policies. As part of our review, we’re looking at ways to improve access to healthy foods for underserved populations and other opportunities that would benefit Puget Sound communities. On the 2008 election ballot we’re proposing language to strengthen our bylaws regarding food safety protocols. Congratulations to management and staff for extending PCC’s reach to the north end with the Edmonds store on track to open in August 2008. Our exceptional staff and membership surely will make this store another great success.

We invite you to attend a board meeting, stop by our monthly “Talk to the Board” events, vote in the 2008 election, or send us your ideas to board@pccsea.com. We appreciate the opportunity to serve as your board and look forward to another great year!

Julie E. Tempest
Chair, PCC Board of Trustees
