PCC 2006 Annual Report
To our fellow co-op members from your board.
We should all take pride in the tremendous year our co-op has just had — 2006 was a year of noteworthy growth.
Perhaps most significantly, PCC opened a new store in what is a new neighborhood for us. The combination of many longtime PCC members migrating to Redmond along with Redmond’s ongoing population growth projected a strong customer base for a Redmond PCC. We are quite pleased with the sales in its first year and excited by the enthusiasm with which PCC has been received in the Redmond community.
During 2006, PCC was once again honored for its sustainable business practices by Sustainable Industries Journal and BetterBricks as well as for the excellence of our service and products by ParentMap, NWsource.com and Vitamin Retailer. PCC was also named one of the top 25 best local employers by Seattle Metropolitan magazine. PCC’s management team and superb staff richly deserve kudos for these strong operational achievements.
Nearly a decade ago, the board adopted Policy Governance® as the basis to run our co-op. In that system, management is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our stores while the board’s work is primarily policy, goal setting and oversight. We’re guided, in large part, by learning what you need from PCC and what you’d like to see PCC mean to its communities.
Toward that end, board members visited each of our stores several times throughout the year to learn more about what’s important to you. We’ve structured our new, more popular and widely attended member meetings to include mini member forums. We’ve also commissioned a member satisfaction survey as a more structured way of finding out how you think PCC is doing. We’ll publish those results in early summer of 2007.
It’s our honor to serve in this capacity of trust on your behalf and we hope that you’ll always be willing to share your ideas and concerns with us.
Bob Cross
Chair, PCC Board of Trustees
